What Does the following ultrasound Report Indicate?
Hi Doctor, I have gone for USG for early pregnancy scan today and the report says single early intra uterine gestation corresponding to 4-5 weeks ; MSD is 7.1mm ; fetal pole not yet identified ; Tiny yolk sac seen ; perchorionic collection is Nil ; corpus length is 3.3 cm ; gestational age is 4-5 weeks. My Lmp was on 23-4-16 and my doctor says I should be 8 weeks pregnant by now..bt the report is showing only 4-5 weeks and suggested for USG scan again after a week.I just wanted to know whether this is normal or is there any problem??
* There is always a difference of 2 weeks between the gestational age and fetal age by ultrasound and as per LMP findings as the ultrasound counts the actual fetal age while the LMP counts from the day of conception ( gestational age ).
* So obvious difference of 2 weeks is normal, if above that means abnormality in development of fetus and the same must be screened out with various blood samples and sequential ultrasound examination.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
